Fastloc™ tags developed by the Sea Mammal Research Unit (University of St Andrews, UK) were deployed in 2005 on Grey seals around the UK
The picture below highlights the Fastloc™ location data transmitted by 3 of these seals over a 6 month period. Never before had such a quantity of location data with such spatial detail been obtained from free ranging marine mammals, it is also the first time that GPS locations have been possible from such animals:
Table 1 Fastloc™ tag performance Table 1 presents the Fastloc™ performance for the 3 tags presented in the tracks picture, it highlights the fact that 40-50% of snapshots will provide a reliable location estimate, with 1000's of locations over the tag lifetime.
